Lyell-Otis: Where Neighbors Help Neighbors

Everyone has different talents and abilities, and LONA appreciates anyone who wants to get involved. LONA has many ways that folks can help. For example:

**************************

Volunteer Your Time

LONA knows of neighbors who may need assistance with snow shoveling throughout the winter, or garden weeding, and yard/lawn clean-up in the spring and summer. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us!

Assist with an Upcoming Event

The Lyell Branch Library is such a wonderful neighbor to us! THANK YOU to Joan Lee, Pat Connor, and all the wonderful library employees for all that you do! :)

Contact Joan Lee if you would like to make any donations to the library - books for the sale, mittens for those without, or cash to help keep the library well equipped and accessible to all!

Write a Letter or Sign a Petition

From time to time, LONA may need community support in the form of a petition signature or a personalized letter to a local official.

Please check back here occationally to see if there is a current issue LONA may need your help with! Thank you!

Are you a
SUPER HERO?
We need YOU!

Calling all those who fight
for truth, justice,
and the American way!

We need
Court Watchers
A.S.A.P.!

Court Watch is an all volunteer program. It is a way of bringing our Lyell-Otis neighborhood's presence into the courtroom, to let the judges know that we take our area of the city seriously, and we care about improving our quality of life. We would contact you approximately twice a month, or so, but you would really make a huge and positive difference in the way our judicial system operates!

Court watchers would meet at the courthouse by 9:30am, and be prepared to stay for a couple of hours. Parking can cost up to $8 dollars for the morning in the nearby parking garages/lots. Car pooling is the best way to go - to help the pocketbook, as well as the environment!

Please email Bob Stevenson
bob.stevenson77@yahoo.com to let him know that you are willing to help out, and he can answer any questions you may have. Bob has been a Court Watch champion since LONA began this volunteer program ages ago! We just need more people willing to help, as more hands make light work! :)

Perhaps high school and/or college students would be able to get some sort of extra-credit for their Participation in Government, other Social Studies, or English classes for keeping a journal/log of your experiences helping out. Hey, if you don't ask, you'll never know! (Plus, there are bike racks that a bicycle could be locked onto while you were inside volunteering, so you would not spend any money to park, *and* you could get in a little workout as well! It's all good!)

I'd be willing to drive 3 people there and back, as I can't stay through the session, but I'd be glad to offer my driving skills to help advance this cause! :) Text/call me at: 585-851-8586 after contacting Mr. Stevenson.

Thanks in advance for
your volunteer service,
Super-Person!
We couldn't do this without YOU!

Rochester Animal Services

Welcome to the Rochester Animal Services Help the Animals Fund

This fund was established in 2001 to receive gifts and donations for the purpose of promoting animal welfare, pet adoptions, and pet population control through Rochester’s low-income spay and neuter program. Initially, most of the funds were used toward the purchase of veterinary supplies and equipment required for the spay-neuter clinic. Since the clinic opened in July 2004, contributions continue to support the spay-neuter clinic while also being used toward the purchase of supplies to enrich the lives of animals in our care or toward advertisements to promote adoptions, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of spaying and neutering.

You can donate to the HELP THE ANIMALS FUND right now using your credit card. To do so, please enter an amount below and proceed with the donation process.

If you would prefer to send a tax-deductible donation by mail, please send a check made
payable to:

Rochester Animal Services
184 Verona Street
Rochester, NY 14608

For more information about how your donation can help, please call (585) 428-7274 or email the shelter at cf1274@cityofrochester.gov.
